Drink your tea slowly and reverently, as if it is the axis on which the world earth revolves. (Thich Nhat Hanh)
Fragments from imaginary dialogues
“What does ritual mean to you?”
“It means performing an action meaningfully.
Thich Nhat Han’s quote beautifully captures this idea for me.
The focus is not on the what, but on the how of it. Ritual is a profound acknowledgement that how you do anything matters.”
“So it’s in the mindset, not the actions.”
There’s a quote I love by Joseph Campbell:
Your sacred space is where you can find yourself again and again.
For me, this concept(ual model) of sacred space is at the heart of ritual. And I extended it to time as well: sacred time.
Through ritual, you are creating sacred space and sacred time.
Ritual is the gateway into the Universe of the Sacred.”
